Questions people ask
Does this actually translate cats?
Not in the way a dictionary translates French. What the app does is match your recording against a library of catalogued sounds and give you the mood that fits best.
So is any of it based on anything?
The sound library is built from recordings tagged by behaviourists, and the care guides are written and reviewed by practising vets. The moods are a best match, not a verdict. The guides are the part we would stake a reputation on.
Can I use it to tell if my cat is ill?
No. A meow alone cannot tell you that. The early-signs guide lists the changes in appetite, litter, grooming and hiding that do matter, and says plainly when to phone a vet.
Why does it give a different answer for the same meow?
Background noise, distance and a shorter clip all change what the app hears. Record for the full five seconds in a quiet room and the readings settle down.
Does it work with kittens, or with dogs?
Kittens, yes, with a smaller set of moods until they are about six months old. Dogs, no. It will produce an answer, but it will be nonsense.
What happens to my recordings?
They stay on your phone unless you save them to history, and history is stored in your account, never sold. Deleting the account deletes them the same day.
